Located in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and on the Arkansas River in northeast Oklahoma, Tulsa’s place in what is known as “Green Country,” gives residents incredible access to outdoor recreational opportunities. In Tulsa’s downtown area, the River Parks feature playgrounds, picnic areas and miles of trails winding through scenic areas along the Arkansas River that are perfect for the hiking and biking enthusiasts. The center at Redbud Valley is a unique habitat that includes sugar maple, limestone caves, scrub oak and cactus. As one of the largest urban nature centers in the country, the Oxley Nature Center at Mohawk Park, has habitats that include marshland on into woodlands. Mohawk Park is also the home of the Tulsa Zoo, the North American Living Museum, and two 18-hole public golf courses. Speaking of golf, the sport is available nearly year-round as seven private clubs and four other public courses.
Culture is very much alive and well in Tulsa, where you will find two world-renowned museums like the Gilcrease Museum which preserves and studies American art and history, and the Philbrook Museum, one of only five museums in the country presenting a combination of a historical home, gardens and art collections. The world-class Tulsa Ballet is often ranked in the top five in America. Dozens of local venues offer live music throughout the week and the new BOK Center hosts major concerts, too.
Sports fans delight at the many opportunities to catch local Tulsa athletes in action. The BOK Center, plays home to both the Tulsa Talons, an Arena Football League team, and the Tulsa Oilers, a Central Hockey League team. Tulsa also has minor league baseball with the Tulsa Drillers and an NBA Development League team called the Tulsa 66ers. If shopping and dining are more your style, then Tulsa has everything to suit your needs. From culinary masterpieces developed by top-rated chefs, to down-home, heartwarming cooking from Tulsa’s many locally-owned diners and chain restaurants, you can find anything your palate craves. Shopping is available in many local malls and unique items can be discovered in Tulsa’s specialty stores.
